Final update for Light of my Life Chapter 1-7

This is the last update for Light of my Life, chapters 1 through 7, hence the update of the version number to 1.0.0. At this time, the assembly is getting so big, it's stressing a lot of hardware with modest specs out, so chapter 8 will be released as a fresh new installation, and you should be able to seamlessly pick up there where you left off on chapter 7.

This update also adds achievements, so that is a nice addition I feel, to finish work on this build on.

Release notes:

  • Fixes issue with certain images not showing up correctly after the upgrade to Python 3.9.
  • Adds achievements. There's 55 in all to discover.
  • Adds a screen to the game to view your achievements.
  • Adds missing outfit detail variants for M and D in chapter 7, day 5.
  • Adds a new perk for Macy in chapter 6, so both Macy and Denise now have three in all to earn.
  • Adds code to autosave/export choices at the end of chapter 7. These will be used to import your choices at the start of chapter 8.
  • Adds several minor bugfixes and typo corrections.

Exports at the end of chapter 7:

  • This is how to ensure you have your choices exported at the end of the game:
  • Load the "Please save the game at this point." save for chapter 7 (or any save a little prior to that).
  • Replay the end of the game.
  • You will get a notification that a save has been made and choices were exported.

The choices export (that uses the ren'py multipersistent mechanism) will be used to seamlessly continue in chapter 8. A save file is also created automatically, as a backup, in case someone loses the choices export file (it lives in a different location than the save files).

Where to find the choices export file so you can back it up:

This file is called ch7end.loml.naughtyroad, and it is the preferred way to carry your choices over to the next chapter. It can be found here:

  • pc: %APPDATA%/RenPy/persistent
  • Linux: ~/.renpy/persistent
  • Mac OS X: ~/Library/RenPy/persistent
  • Android: depends, usually under Internal Storage\Android\data\, under: com.naughtyroad.lightofmylife\files\saves

Where to find the endgame save file so you can back it up:

This file is called ch7_end_game-LT1.save, and it is the backup for carrying your choices over to the next chapter. It can be found here:

  • pc: [install folder]/game/saves or %APPDATA%/RenPy/LightofmyLife-1547911404
  • Linux: [install folder]/game/saves or ~/.renpy/LightofmyLife-1547911404
  • Mac OS X: [install folder]/game/saves or ~/Library/RenPy/LightofmyLife-1547911404
  • Android: depends, usually under Internal Storage\Android\data\, under: com.naughtyroad.lightofmylife\files\saves

Minimum requirements for Android, and tips to install and run it.

This chapter of light of my life is very memory hungry, and especially so on Android, where RAM is usually at a premium. Before getting the game, make sure you are confident you are able to run it.

Here's some tips on how to get it to work if you're having trouble:

Installation:

You need to have enough free storage to install (about 2 times the size of the APK, or 4 GB, on internal storage, not counting the size of the APK file itself that you'll also need to download). After installation is complete, that extra storage is no longer required.

Running the game:

You will need to have enough *free* RAM to play it (not total RAM, but free RAM). Try to free up as much as you can, consider finding RAM memory booster apps in the Play Store to free up as much as you can if you do not have enough. For instance, it works fine on an S22 provided there's enough freed up RAM, but on my S9, it requires shutting nearly everything off (and making sure it stays shut off) to get it to start (in my case, with 2.7 GB of free RAM).

Additional options:

If you need some guidance, search the internet, there's many helpful articles out there, for instance: https://beebom.com/best-ways-clear-ram-android/. Some people have reported success using joiplay to run it, but even there some additional settings are required to limit usage of memory and other resources.

However, sadly, some older devices or devices with limited resources just won't be able to install or run it, and that cannot be helped without extensive rework. I'm really sorry about that.

I wanted to tell you I love this game, one of the only well written erotic games I've ever played, I'm just curious on what the time frame on chapter 8 is, last time i checked in on this game was august and i was scared it was abounded for a bit 😅

Hey Punchdrunk, glad you liked it.

Light of my Life chapters are pretty big, and take a long time to complete. Join the discord (free), patreon, or subscribestar (links in the main menu in the game and the main game here) to see weekly development updates.

I just wanted to say that I really love your game.  Thanks for all the work you've put into it.

Thank you! Really glad you're enjoying it!

So finally making my around to finishing v1. 0 and apparently saying no to relieving myself in front of Denise means I'm no longer allowed to alleviate her anxiety with the massages?

Also just got the "therapeutic roleplay" achievement and by this point, getting real sick of females giving me the bum's rush from a bathroom

In this visual novel, you have the option to stay on a character's romantic path, or get off of it at certain points if you prefer.

And yes, indicating you don't want to be romantically involved with a character anymore means you don't get to give her very erotic massages anymore either. Note that the game will give you a clear warning when a choice leads to leaving a character's path.

As to characters in this game occasionally kicking you out of the bathroom or otherwise doing things for their own reasons that do not include the MC, that's life. As any guy who's ever shared a household with any number of women can attest, you are not in control here, buddy.

I had this wishlisted on Steam for a hot minute.  I see that you were not able to keep it up there.  May I ask why they made that decision?  One thing I will say is Steam gets wary when it involves any school environments and adult content.  Not sure if this has that or not but if it did it would make sense.  I will pick it up here either way.  I hear good things about this game.  I am just curious as to why it did not make it to Steam.

(1 edit) (+1)

Apparently despite removing or changing all references to school Steam rejected the game and refuses to reconsider.

Considering some of the Japanese & Western games on there their decisions can be extremely arbitrary.

I see.  I have heard before that the rules are not always applied equally.  Thanks for responding though, was just curious.  Like what I have read so far.  The character models have a unique look that I haven't seen in other adult VN's.

im glad i got the game before i went up for sale so how do i update it know . Do i have to buy it to update it know ?

You shouldn't have to. Once you buy the game, you should be able to download any updates that are pushed here.
Note though, that there've not been any updates lately. The current version was released a few months ago, and apart from maybe a small bugfix, I don't expect many new updates to it.

Chapter 8 will be a new, separate download when it comes, because this chapters 1-7 together have grown too big in size, and I can't really add any more to that download. But chapter 8's not ready for release yet, and I'll put up more info about it all when it gets close.

So is the game no longer coming to Steam so I should buy it here instead?

(1 edit) (+3)

Sadly, I wasn't able to put it up on Steam, so if you're buying, here's as good a place as any, perhaps even better.
In general, while Steam is a much larger platform in terms of users, Itch is way more developer friendly and takes a substantially smaller cut than the big boys like Steam do.

(1 edit)

do you have any sort of rough estimate on when you might release the next chapter?

(+1)

With the complexity at this point in the story (where lewd interactions are unlocked for basically every character), there's about a 3 to 4 thousands hours of production time to a single chapter, which roughly translates to about a year or so of development time.

Loved the game!  I was able to find the final save file no problem, but there's no ch7end.loml.naughtyroad file in the directory you mentioned... Anywhere else I can look?  I'm on Windows 11.

I tried searching my entire C: drive for a "ch7end.loml.naughtyroad", but nothing shows up at all.

Did you play the game all the way to the end, where you get an onscreen notification "Making end-of-chapter autosave and exporting choices."? You may have stopped too soon (and may have also missed the little bonus scene that comes after the ending and the end-game summary).

Heya, Thank you for replying!  Yeah, I played it all the way through, even through the end credits, and the end-of-game save file (ch7_end_game-LT1.save) DID get created in the game/saves directory, as expected.  It's just that choices export file that's nowhere to be found!

(1 edit) (+1)

Well, that is peculiar. It does live in a different folder from the save file, and only under the app_data sub folder (saves live both under the install folder and under a different appdata subfolder. Perhaps some issue with security settings or overactive anti virus software. At any rate, not to worry, that final save file can be used as an alternative to the choices export (I'm expecting there to be some people who just back up their install folder and move machines, losing access to the choices export, and it can use that as a fallback), so if you have that stored you should be fine too.

Ok, thanks!

By the way, thanks for that post about DForce, I found it more useful than most tutorials out there, I'm one of those people who prefer written to video and most are video these days

(+2)

Cheers, glad you liked that. I like doing those little behind the scene posts when I have a moment to spare, which is not that often sadly.
Personally, I prefer written too, with decent screenshots, as it's easier to follow the steps without having to pause and rewind all the time.

I've been waiting for it to come to steam or gog as itch has unreliable download links, but I just saw your game had been banned?   Well, it looks like it's a good time to purchase Ch1-7 as you're starting up a season 2 (basically) with chapter 8.

(+1)

Does the final update me its done for good and no more updates?

(+1)

Nope, this is the final update for chapters 1-7, chapter 8 is under development, and will be a new install. See explanation above for the technical reasons.

(+1)

Okay good i love your game and i will buy the next one if i have to just to support you.

(+1)

Was looking forward to the steam release but saw the bad news. Decided to show some support by purchasing this here instead.

(+1)

Thank you! Much appreciated. Yeah, Steam's weird. Oh well.

It's a shame that the developer doesn't care about those with weaker devices, that doesn't mean the person can't afford the game, I waited almost two years and I'm very disappointed with this developer, I won't help anymore.

(2 edits) (+3)

Oh, I care, and I'm really sorry that in spite of everything you tried, it's not working for you (you did try, did you? Because you wrote earlier you got an error message, and that just means you don't have enough storage to install).

But there's an awful lot of content added in this chapter (it just about doubled in size), and the bottom line is, your phone just doesn't seem to able to deal with the increased memory requirements.

Do read the instructions in this post. But if your device really is that weak (and you admit yourself it is), then it's really out of my hands.

You can find a refurbished computer for decent prices these days. They are usually 5th or 6th gen i3 or i5 desktops & laptops. While obviously not as powerful as a modern machine they will come with plenty of storage, 64 bit windows or Linux, enough RAM and a graphics card decent enough to play visual novels and older games.

And refurbished android phones are a thing, but seem comparatively more expensive

(+2)

Finally put some money towards this game. It's given me so much fun, it's nice to see a 1.0.0 release.

What is the planned number of chapters for the complete story?

Thank you for all the work that's gone into this great novel

(+2)

Cheers, and thank you!

Currently in the process of figuring that out.

(+1)

If we Purchase Chapter 1-7 for $10 when 8 releases will we have to pay again? As it will be a separate release?

(+3)

As it says above, it will be a separate release. After 4 years of development, many dozens of hours of gameplay, and a footprint that is giving a lot of hardware a serious run for its money, it's time to tie a ribbon around this one and shove it out the door, so to say.

8 Core CPU

32GB Ram

2080Super to play Visual Novels.

That's the way to go ;D
